about me

John M is a Linux fan in Lowell, MA.

I work at at a company writing software. I fool around with Free and Open Source software for fun & profit.

I was big into Last.fm and you can still see some of what I listen to there. I can also be found using github and recently sourcehut as well as bitbucket (historically). I don't care for most popular social media sites. If I have an account on one or the other it's probably either old and unused or was created just for tinkering.

New Software Gone Live

If you've been to this site before, you may notice a few differences. Well, I've tried to keep the same look as before but the software generating this page is totally different than before.

I used to use Plone/Zope, which I like a lot, but seems to run terribly over the DSL upstream that I've got. I knew static pages would work better, so I designed and wrote some software that takes a bunch of files and turns them into pages (and rss, etc. feeds). The software is called MuyHomepage and when cleaned up, I'll make a proper releas of it.

One major difference is that the site no longer supports comments, the Quills commenting system for Plone never really worked right anyway. So I've dropped the feature entirely for now. But please, send me comments/questions/correspondance via email, you might even make it to the Best of Comments page. :-)

Oh, old blog entries will still be available here for a while.
